The friendly team at Visique Hawkins Optometrists in Millwater prides itself on its high standards of service and professionalism.

Visique Hawkins Optometrists has been an important part of the local Rodney community since the 1970s. At the beginning of 2015 the shop moved to its current Millwater location, after many years in Orewa.

The new location at 175 Millwater Parkway is in the heart of a bustling health hub.

The team comprises of three friendly staff, and three optometrists; Dennis Oliver, David Joe and Jaymie Rogers - who recently joined the team. The three optometrist share more than 50 years’ of clinical experience.

Optometrist Dennis Oliver says there’s more to optometry than a new pair of glasses, it’s about ensuring the health and well-being of your eyes.

Eyes are a sensory organ. Some eye conditions result in blindness, and reduced quality of life, but are easily preventable if picked up early.

Visique’s eye examinations screen for glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, uncontrolled diabetes or hypertension and ocular conditions. They have state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment to aid in diagnosis and monitoring of such conditions.

It is recommended to have a comprehensive eye examination every two years and every one year for children and contact lenses wearers.

Recent studies show blue light emitted from smartphones, tablets, and computers could be put users at risk of early onset macular degeneration. Increased exposure leads to eye fatigue, dry eye issues, headaches and an increased prevalence of short sightedness.

Dennis says blue light damage is a growing concern as people spend greater periods of time every day on digital devices while working and studying, and children are exposed at an earlier age to screens. Visique Hawkins has access to the latest technology in lens design, and lenses filtering out harmful blue light.
