Our Feb 16 story about cyclists taking over the Te Ara Tahuna pathway in Orewa got a lot of you talking. We received comments on the online article, through Facebook and Neighbourly, and via email. Many of you have had bad experiences with cyclists, but some pointed out that people walking dogs or walking with earphones in can also be a nuisance. I did the estuary walk with my dog twice last week, and it was pleasant both times. Cyclists and walkers all said a friendly ‘‘hi’’ and if I heard a cyclist call out or ring their bell, I would move to the side and wait for them to pass. Perhaps I got lucky, but there is a lot to be said for common courtesy. This week we have a story about the Mangawhai community rallying to help find missing boatie Shane Hayes (P3). Our thoughts are with the family and what a great comfort it must be to know that so many people care. On P2 we bring you the news that Te Muri Regional Park will remain car free. This is welcome news for the involved community.
