Young farmer impresses
Courtney Davies, 20, is a role model to many of her peers.
The Dairy Flat student recently won multiple titles at the New Zealand Dairy Event in Feilding, including the New Zealand Dairy Event Ambassador award - a title which will look impressive on her CV.
‘‘Winning the youth ambassador award is not just about winning for me, it is being able to give back to the community and inspiring others,’’ Davies says.
While studying her Masters in natural sciences and travelling around New Zealand for many different events, Davies is making her mark in the dairy industry.
Winning this category along with the ayrshire event, the judging competition and the youth challenge, Davies will be representing New Zealand in the United Kingdom in September.
‘‘I will get to go over there and do some of their events and get to know the local breeders and learn about their cattle. I am pretty happy to be acknowledged and to be able to represent the youth and culture of New Zealand,’’ she says.
To win this title, Davies was interviewed and judged on sportsmanship and etiquette.
‘‘I was judged on how I handled myself and how I was involved with the cattle. I was judged and interviewed by two judges and the winner from last year.’’
As the winner Davies was also given the Shirley Crothers Memorial Trophy.
Davies is also travelling to Melbourne the week after returning home from the UK to represent New Zealand after winning dairy handling and beef judging events last year.
‘‘I am really excited to see what else is out there.’’
