Fans meet netball royalty

- STAFF REPORTER

A young Warkworth netballer was at the heart of the action at the ANZ Premiership match on April 17, as she stood side by side with Stars captain Leana De Bruin and Pulse captain Katrina Grant in front of a stadium of fans.

Dana Hulsman, 12, along with Tuakau netballer, Ann Linacre, 11, won the opportunity to meet the team captains and high five each of the players as they were called onto centre court.

Dana, who attends Mahurangi College, was really nervous before the game but excited to meet her heroes.

‘‘Meeting the captains of both teams was definitely my favourite part. I thought the netballers were really good at defence. I play goal defence and have learnt to move into space more.’’

ANZ Head of Sponsorship Susan McGregor says ANZ is passionate about supporting netball at every level, from the elite to the grassroots.

‘‘That’s why we’re giving 94 children from across around New Zealand the chance to meet their sporting heroes at each of the ANZ Premiership matches this season. We’re very pleased we’re able to offer this amazing opportunity to young Kiwis and hope that by offering them the chance to stand on centre court with their heroes it will help inspire them to achieve their dreams,’’ McGregor said. The match saw the Pulse beat the Stars 53-44.
