I attended the 11am Anzac Day parade and service at the
Hibiscus Coast Community RSA on Tuesday. My daughter marched in the parade with her Pippin group. I became a New Zealand citizen last year so this was my first Anzac Day as a Kiwi which made the day feel very significant.
Over the last few weeks, the Rodney Times has talked to quite a few war veterans, including
Stan and Max who are on today’s front page (story on P3). Listening to them talk, one theme rings clear - the camaraderie among these veterans. For some, like Stan, remembering his time in service is too painful. It’s hard to understand just what these veterans saw and experienced.
The sun shone on Anzac Day and thousands turned out to pay their respects at services around the region. The sense of camaraderie remains a dominant theme. We will remember them.
