Rain forecast for Orewa

Oh what a glorious feeling!

-

The beloved musical Singin in the Rain Jr. is coming to Centrestage Theatre!

The classic and colourful production, based on the Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds 1952 film, will star Hollie Powderley (Kathy Seldon), Jackson Howes (Cosmo Brown) and James Hunter (Don Lockwood).

Brought to life by Centrestage Youth Theatre, the musical comedy will make its New Zealand premiere on the second week of the July school holidays.

Following on from the company’s successful senior youth show Little Shop of Horrors earlier this year, the production will feature local youths aged between five and 18.

The nearly 50 strong cast from Orewa College, KingsWay School, Whangaparaoa College, and Hibiscus Coast primary schools, will be joined by almost as many volunteers working behind the scenes.

Vice president of Centrestage Theatre Company Sarah Searle says the production will showcase different faces.

‘‘With a number of our students leaving for Orewa College’s trip to the UK in July this has been a fantastic opportunity for our other Centrestage Youth Theatre kids to come up through the ranks,’’ she said.

‘‘They certainly have not disappointed at all with their ability to sing, dance, act and entertain through this audience pleasing favourite.’’

The production is set to feature a rain machine too, which Searle says the cast is very excited about.

Singin in the Rain Jr. runs from July 18-22, and tickets are available at the box office or from centrestagetheatre.co.nz.
