Coast resident’s vision to connect the community

- MATTHEW CATTIN

Elke Brunner believes we can all do more to help each other out.

And - not one to sit idly - the Stanmore Bay resident is taking the first steps to make it happen. Help Each Other Out is Brunner’s vision - a tool to connect people who need a hand with people willing to lend one. As a care worker for the community’s elderly, she has seen first hand the struggles some go through day to day, from getting to appointments, to maintaining households.

Brunner believes there are plenty of people in the community who would be happy to help, if they know where the need is.

‘‘People would love to do it and connect with each other. There are people who have the hours left in the day.’’

But the problem lies in finding a way to connect need with help - especially when many of those who need a hand aren’t on social media.

‘‘There needs to be something physical where people can actually meet each other and exchange skills and make friendships,’’ Brunner said.
