Covid will pass – global warming will not Downtownwoes
Thank you, Rob Rattenbury, for your balanced column about Covid-19 (September 21).
As you say, life is not going to be the same. Scientists are telling us there will bemore pandemics. They tried to warn us about this one but no onewas listening.
This could be the time to stop using the term “tourism” and replace it with “diversify”.
Tothose clinging to the old world order: there has been a shift in the Earth’s axis. In all of this, global warming has been given a back seat.
Let’s hope as soon as the election is over it will be given its rightful place again. Covid will eventually run its course.
Global warming is the thing that will kill us and our grandchildren if it is not madefront and centre in every decisionwemake– especially politicians.

Rotorua
The fact that somema¯ori die earlier thansomenon-ma¯ori and that they should be compensated because they won’t draw asmuchpension as other non-ma¯ori is inmyview disturbing to say the least.
The question ofsome Ma¯ori dying earlier should be looked at morefrom ahealth perspective rather than as yet another racebased payment.
I’m sure there are statistics out there that wouldshowthe reasons whythey die at an earlier age.
Wkeen Tauranga
Ihave just visited Rotorua on theway back from Taupo¯. Whyis it that they can get their city shopping centre right?
At lunchtime on a Saturday, I could not find a car park, the streets were very busy with people with shopping bags, free parking.
I onlysaw one empty shop.
Unlike Tauranga where about three out of four shops are empty and there is nobody around shopping. Wendygalloway
