Be bright and merry with Sunpatiens
IT ISAGREATTIME to sort somesummer flowering plants, what with all this warmweather and the lovely— but somewhat excessive— rain last week. You can’t go past Sunpatiens, which are getting rave reviews the world over. With big eye-catching flowers and dark green or brightly variegated foliage, these flowering powerhouses love the sun.
Weare more familiar with thenewguinea or tropical impatiens that are widely grown in the shade through the summermonths. These will not tolerate full sun through the hottest time of the year and are best grown in full shade.
The Sunpatiens, however, are quite a different story. They will flower profusely during the heat of the summer, being at their best through this time. They are very bright and beautiful and are perfect for that sunny spot in the garden where you want to add a burst of tropical colour.
They comein a range of colours including coral, orange, carmine red, deep rose, lilac, blush pink, white and magenta. Planted in pots, they perform brilliantly and grow into a lovely big bush that is full of flower that overhangs the pot, which makes a fantastic display.
Plant en-masse in the garden for the very best effect. They could be used as a border planting or as a feature under the trees or out in the full sun.
Whenplanting at this time of the year, ensure that you add in some good quality compost to the soil and perhaps mulch with somedaltons Mulch and Grow. This will ensure that they don’t dry out as, even though they like the sun, they do not like to dry out.
So, if you are wanting a blast of colour in your garden for summer, get some Sunpatiens in nowand be bright!
