Matera has been at the centre of a social media scandal after historic tweets attributed to the Argentinean captain havecometo light, which allegedlyshowed himmaking racist and xenophobic remarks. It is a scandal that has rocked world rugby.
Matera’s captaincywas suspended before being dramatically reinstated by the UAR. The U-turn decision has upsetsome commentators, whowant ahardline approachon the matter from the union and the sport.
Nowworld Rugby have added their say to matter, noting that the investigation is into anumberof membersof the squad, not just the skipper.
The statement reads: “World Rugby welcomes reports that the Unio´nargentina de Rugby (UAR) continues to undertake a full investigation into racist social media commentsattributed tomembersof the senior men’s national 15s team.

“Clearly the comments, or any form of discrimination, are unacceptable and completely opposed to the strong, universal and inclusive values that the rugby family aspires to live and uphold. There is simply noplace for them, and such behaviour rightly warrants full and appropriate investigation by the union.
