Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni said yesterday that his government has shutdownsocial media ahead of a tense election on Friday, accusing Facebook andunnamedoutside groups of “arrogance” after the social network this weekremoved Ugandan accounts linked to his re-election campaign. Facebook said on Tuesday that it had removed anetwork of accounts and pages that “used fake andduplicate accounts tomanage pages, commenton other people’s content, impersonate users, re-share posts in groups tomakethemappear morepopular than they were”. The networkwas linked to a government ministry, it said. Facebook has not responded to the president’s comments.
