Renovated and full of surprises for family, inside and out

- By Jo Ferris

Surprises are always nice – especially when it comes to finding a property that manages to surprise in just about every way imaginable. This home begins by hiding itself from the street; sitting on an elevated site behind its neighbour below. Heading up the drive, the house then starts hinting at the numerous surprises it offers. From the outside, there’s a suggestion this property has enjoyed renovation. It’s not until stepping inside that it reveals a total revamp – head to toe.

First, however, it’s hard to ignore the extent of this section’s size. Far from being a home squashed on a small rear site, there’s a significant garden platform up behind the house; together with a serious amount of parking and garage space. Apart from the triple garage, there’s a separate, high-stud carport right beside. Screened with solid hinged gates, it cleverly disguises this space, while adding security for parking the boat or campervan. On the garage’s other side, there’s a useful verandah patio for utilities, bikes and the like. Hedging divides this from the lawn and patio platform. It’s a multi-purpose playground and entertainment zone – and yet another of the numerous surprises this property boasts.

It all links with the house as the entry steps off the lawn and drive into a sheltered decked extension. Partly sheltered from the roof and enclosed with solid wall and glass balustrades, this is an intriguing outdoor zone for alfresco dining, barbecue fun and children’s parties.

Surprises continue inside when exploring all the different areas. The family hub accentuates its point of difference with a high-stud ceiling, dressed with ranchstyle rafters. It’s a country appeal with a contemporary twist. A designer kitchen is on trend with sleek white finish, negative detailing on cabinetry, good work space and a barstool island that offers ample space for casual meals and conversation. Family living revolves around function and flow – polished wooden flooring in the kitchen and dining area paying homage to the original finish. Carpet is softer underfoot in the lounge and, with the doors opening to the balcony deck outside, serving food and refreshments from the kitchen is a breeze.

Three bedrooms and three bathrooms enhance family life with this home – an ensuite for the master bedroom and two stylish bathrooms elsewhere. All are finished individually – tiling and tones all suited to each bathroom’s personality and purpose. The final surprise is the multi-purpose snug on the lower level. An office, a playroom, a library, or brilliant storage – this area has so many uses.

It’s a property of many layers. Packed with surprises, inside and out – and nestled nicely, right in the heart of town, which puts it handy to everything and everywhere.
