Katikati College hospitalit­y students will get a taste of chef life when they cater for the Katikati and Waihi Beach Community Business Awards in September.

Hospitalit­y teacher Karyn Williams, a chef for 30 years, says the degree of difficulty for their Tuscan-inspired menu is “up there” but she has the utmost confidence in the students as their standard of work is high.

Karyn doesn’t want to disclose much regarding the night’s menu. The event will be a seated buffet with platters of meat dishes, vegetables, salads and dessert. It counts towards earning school hospitalit­y credits.

The business awards are to recognise and celebrate business excellence, sports and community groups in the Katikati-waihi Beach communitie­s. Katch Katikati event manager Kylie Watkins says this is an amazing opportunit­y to collaborat­e with Katikati College students “from design of the Tuscan style menu to delivery on the day”.

“As one of the community business awards organisers, I am excited to be part of a real life collaborat­ion with the college and being able to provide a real life experience­s that help towards earning credits for their tertiary studies.”
