Things you should know about in the week ahead
Population statistics
There are a number of official releases by Statistics New Zealand this week, highlighted by national population estimates as at June 30, 2022, which are being released tomorrow. Business price indexes for the June 2022 quarter will be released on Wednesday, while injury statistics for work-related claims will be published on Thursday.
Council meetings
Rotorua Lakes Council has two meetings this week. The first is a Rural Community Board meeting between 1pm and 3pm today. The second is a Lakes Community Board meeting between 1pm and 3pm on Thursday.
There are several Bay of Plenty Regional Council meetings this week, starting with Komiti Ma¯ ori tomorrow at 9.30am. There are Regional Public Transport Plan Subcommittee hearings from 1.30pm on Wednesday and again from 11am on Friday, a Strategy and Policy meeting at 9.30am on Thursday and a Te Maru o Kituna River Authority meeting at 9.30am on Friday.
Local government
The final list of nominees running for roles within local councils is released on Wednesday.
Weather outlook
Metservice says there is low confidence that a heavy rain warning will be needed for the Bay of Plenty on Thursday as a ridge of high pressure retreated to the east today. There’s moderate confidence a warning will be needed for much of Northland. A strong moist northerly flow is due to develop over the country today, with multiple fronts embedded within the flow to impact the country the rest of the week bringing heavy rain and gale northeasterlies to the north and west of both islands.
