Teacup cash helps

-

Hospice auction promises plenty of treasures.

A Royal Albert china tea set with a butterfly handle, a Marianne Muggeridge 1997 limited edition print and a 1920’s christening pedestal as just a few of the antiques and collectibles going under the hammer in a bid to raise funds to help with palliative care in Taranaki.

The annual Hawera Hospice Shop Antiques and Collectibles Auction is on Sunday, July 17 at Hawera’s South Taranaki Club.

Hawera Hospice Shop manager Ngakiri Antonovich said more than 250 items including a rolled gold cigarette case, Victorian silver serviette rings and silver serving spoons would be auctioned.

Antonovich said the tea set was a surprisingly sought-after item.

The Muggeridge print, by a wellknown local artist, is a view of Mount Taranaki.

Every year hospice needs to raise at least $1.5 million just to fund its operation.

That allows free palliative care to be provided to anybody requiring it. The money is raised through hospice’s four second hand shops in Taranaki, annual auctions, donations and other fundraisers.

Taranaki District Health Board funding covers about 50 per cent of their costs. Each year the Hawera auction raises thousands of dollars for hospice.

Viewing begins at 9.30am and the auction begins at 11.30am. All proceeds go towards providing free palliative care to people in Taranaki.

The New Plymouth antiques and collectibles auction will be on Sunday, November 6 at the Hobson Room, Devon Hotel New Plymouth, viewing 10am, auction beginning at midday. The complete catalogue is available tat www.hospicetaranaki.org.nz.
