Stratford: Ladies, on Tuesday September 20 2016 the Ladies played LGU and Putting. Best score was Flo Coburn with 69 Nett. Pauline Downs and Debbie Volzke had 73 Nett. Best Putts was Debbie with 31. Bobbie Oliver had a Two. Next week Tuesday October 4 2016 is Championsh­ips Rd2. Starters Miro Elliot and Maria Weydon. On Saturday September 24 the Ladies played Pembroke Trophy. Best score was Debbie with 70 Nett and Ann Braithwait­e had 73. Next week 1 October 2016 is LGU, Putting and Pembroke Trophy.

The top club team of P. Downs, C. Downs D. Banham and G. Kite played in the Taranaki final at Manaia on Sunday finishing a commendabl­e forth. Twos were scored by A. Lloyd, D. Cameron, A. Ropiha & N.Yeoman. Championsh­ip matches played at the weekend resulted in wins for Tim White 4/3 over Karl Stratton and Darryn Sunnex 2/1 over Jarrod Graham. The remaining championsh­ip semi-final to be played this weekend is Mark Ropiha vs Daniel Quintus. Stableford for all other players.

Manaia: On Saturday Taranaki Golf held it’s Top Club Tournament at Manaia. The rain stayed away all day and the players were able to enjoy a great days golf on a course which was in beautiful condition. Eleven Clubs were represente­d on the day. Winners of the individual sections were: Seniors Greg Elliott Manaia 40pts, Intermedia­tes Andrew Castles Inglewood 41pts, Juniors John Oliver Manaia 42pts and in the ladies Pauline Downs from Stratford was first with 38pts. The Top Club team winner for 2016 was Manukorihi on 146pts who pipped Manaia who were the defending champs by 1 point on 145. They were followed by Inglewood who had 144pts. Thank you to Colin Hughes, Dave Bunker, Ross Cleaver and Jan Canty for playing there way into Sixth Place in this Annual event, Great Effort by the Four of you. Tyla Winter had 78 to lead the Senior Strokeplay after two rounds. In the Intermedia­tes Trudie Smith had 94 and Bronwen Eccleshall 101. Helen Kelly had the best round in the Juniors 109 and Marie Bunker had 110. Marie won the accuracy. The best round in the 9 Hole Strokeplay was Manu Knapp 54 with June O’Neill and Louise Abbott 58. Adrienne Cudby won the putting round with 16 putts on countback from Manu.

CYCLING

Hawera Road Cycling Club: The lastest round of the Hawera Road Cycling Club’s was held in Normanby on Saturday November 24. With 5 laps of the Katene Road block for a total of 40km the pace was hot from the start with C grade dominating the first 4 laps. With 1 km to go B grade joined in for the finish line assault but James Murphy held them out for 1st place with Peter Schrafft 2nd and a fine ride from Kevin lock for 3rd. Fastest time went to Peter Schrafft in 1.04.33 with Seth Coleman 2nd in 1.04.41, John Larkin kept up his early season form for 3rd in 1.04.42. The Otakeho Indoor Bowing Club held their annual dinner at Shads Restaurant, president Don Semple congratula­ted championsh­ip winners and presented the trophies, and remarked on a very successful year for the club. Fours: Paul Midgley, Jenny Hamley, Ronnie Young, Lesley Landers. Triples:

All of these winners went on to take out the Champion of Champion events at Waimate Plains Associatio­n and the Fours, Pairs and Singles won Champion of Champion events at Taranaki Centre level.

Winners of the Taranaki Open Centre Events were also from Otakeho Club, Fours: Don Semple, Gordon & Jenny Hamley & Jane Augustine. Triples: Gordon & Jenny Hamley & Jane Augustine. Pairs: Don Semple & Jenny Hamley. Singles: Don Semple who also won the Henselite Singles. The following players gain bars to their gold stars Paul Midgley his 4th Bar for 25 Centre Titles, and Jenny Hamley & Don Semple their third bar for 20 centre titles.
