Youth run Children’s Day

-

Mix all the activities together for a great family day out.

A popular recipe for a family day out is coming to Stratford’s TSB Pool Complex thanks to youth organisations.

Children’s Day, which will be held on March 5, will be celebrated with a sausage sizzle, teddy bears’ picnic, pirate ship bouncy castle, games and prizes.

The free event is being run by the Stratford District Youth Council along side the TSB Pool and Tu¯ taki Youth Incorporated.

Youth Council chairperson Katelyn Edser said the council were excited to partake in the event.

‘‘We are looking forward to pitching in and it will be awesome seeing all the families with their children coming along and spending time together,’’ she said.

The council would be helping out on the day with activities and handing out prizes.

Edser said they’d also be there to provide input into the activities and keep things fun, considering their youthful minds.

TSB Pool acting manager Mike Hills said he and his team were looking forward to the day, which had been very popular in the past.

‘‘We always have a lot of interest and a good turn out for Children’s Day, so will have lots on offer to ensure that there is something for everyone,’’ he said.

Children’s Day was founded in the year 2000 to celebrate children. It aims to be noncommercial with a focus on nurturing children and spending quality time with them.

‘‘We encourage families to come along,’’ Hills said.

The pool will be open free of charge for all children and families from 1pm to 4pm - children under eight years of age must be accompanied by an adult, aged 16 years or over.
