Strathmore: Twilight was held on March 15 in very good weather and the best scores were Bevan Jordan 21 Mike Johnson 20 James Smithson 20 Vaughan Wood 19 Kristen Lourie 18 Maurie Mills 17. Sunday 19 we managed to play the for San Rosa Trophy and our youngest member James Smithson blitzed the field with 47 points. Runner up was Sam Lourie 37 points. Ladies was won by Kristen Lourie with 37 Points. Saturday March 25 is the second round of Rebel Pennants at

Opunake so come on Strathmore. Sunday 26 is the second round of Capt Trophy and Golden Putter will be held and the Top Dog matches are all to be played before April 2 or you will forfeit the matches.

Stratford Ladies: On Tuesday March 14 was the second round of Nancy McCormack. Overall winners were Jenny Oien and Heather Vivian. Best score of the others was Diane Morresey and Diane had a two. The annual Normanby Lions Club tournament was held on Saturday, after being postponed from the previous weekend. The excellent conditions saw some great scoring. K Ropiha took out the senior division with 44 points ahead of J Pettett 42, D Quintus and R Hall 39, O Clegg and P Bishop 38. The intermedia­te division was won by A Abbott with 45 points. He was followed P Bayley 42, P Luke 39, W Coxhead and T Johnson 38. The junior section was won by M Hurley with 44 points ahead of J Hockly 43, M Armstrong, C Blake and T O’Connor 42, and P Tamou 41. The ladies division was taken out by Opunake’s D Williams with 41 points on countback from M Stannard. Another Oopunke player D Forsyth had 40 points and G McDonald 39. The nine-hole division was won by E Preston with 23 points ahead of L Abbott 21.

The semifinals of the Good Trophy were also held last weekend with P Luke beating R Knapp and M Reynolds beating G Stannard. The final will be played this weekend with a 9.30am tee off.

Stratford: The second round of stableford for the Rutherford Memorial was played on Saturday March 18 and this year’s winner is Bryan Daysh with a two-round total of 79 points. The evergreen Terry Cooksley was one point behind in second place. The Stableford haggle for the day was won by Terry Johnson and Mike Willis with 43 points followed by Henry Morton on 42 and Tony Cawley, Peter Death and Bryan Daysh on 39.The 46th annual Wairakei trip took place over Taranaki anniversar­y weekend with Terry Johnson winning the Tombstone Trophy for the best tworound net with a score of 140.Saturday March 25 there will be a Blue Tee stableford comp and the following Saturday is the first round of the club strokeplay champs.There will be a working bee to install the pipe work for the replacemen­t of the water system on Sunday 26th. This is a big job, so any member who can help spare a few hours will help get the job done quicker. Start time will be 9am.

Wednesday nights Business House 1-8 The HEG nett 19 from Hot Shots 20 and Albihunt 21. On the back 8 Fire One 17, The Mix 18 and HCP Swingers 22. One two scored by Fire One.

The Ladies played the first round of field putting this last week with Carol Kersten the best with 31 putt and a 2 on the 3rd par three. The next best were only three more putts on 34. Hawera target shooters have started off into a new year of shooting. Thanks to the willing helpers a whole new target holding board was installed. Already scores on practice cards are showing promise. Christina Burr had a 98.5 and an average of close to 95 over 4 cards T. C.

CRICKET

On Saturday, March 18 the Hawera High School Saturday IX cricket team had a slender loss in a T20 match against the Francis Douglas Memorial College year 12 side. Batting first Hawera made 114 for 4 off their 20 overs with Denay Patel top scoring on 37 not out and Jah Reihana 24. FDMC reached the total with just three balls to spare with Campbell Roberts bowling well, snaring three wickets for 12 runs from his spell.
