It is always so disappoint­ing to hear about the lowlifes who think they can take stuff just because they want it.

It isn’t rocket science to know that if you don’t own it then you cannot have it. Sadly, so often the victims of these sorts of thefts are those people who put themselves out for others, who give of their spare time to help, even save lives.

So it is with the theft from the Patea and District Boating Club last Friday. Some scumbags stole the outboard motor from an inflatable rescue craft as well as wetsuits and boots. These are needed to keep people safe on the water. It beggars belief that someone would think these would good to steal.

The only thing worse would be someone who thinks it is OK to buy stolen property such as this.

The club cannot afford to replace valuable items like this and is ready to overlook the theft if they get the motor in particular back.

I suggest the thief takes this opportunit­y to do the right thing and return the stolen property.
