Cortesi trio lead the way

A trio of Cortesis dominated division one of the Tokoroa New World Open Tournament on January 22 with Gavin ( 3hcp) winning the gross with a 70 off the stick, Kurtis took out the nett with a 67 and Brown taking out the stableford with 41 points on a countback from Neil Philpott and Ian Christie. The final prize in Division 1 went to major club and tournament sponsor Damon Jakeman, scoring an impressive 40 points. Men’s Division 2 gross was won convincing­ly by Trex Paiti who, playing off a 20 handicap, shot an 81 off the stick which included a two on the 118m par 3 13th. Nett winner was Ra Pene with a 67, stableford winner Basil Cody (Okoroire) 39 points, Dave Ahuriri and Duane Atkinson 38 and Liam Mckain 36 on a countback from Malcolm Buckley.

The women’s division winners were Debbie Hayes- Lennon and Shirley Buckley.

Shop Twos were scored by Henry Skelton and Basil Cody (Okoroire) on the 14th and Trex Paiti on the 13th.

Funds from the tournament will go towards assisting club representa­tives teams with travel costs. A big thank you to Damon Jakeman of Tokoroa New World for his generous sponsorshi­p.

Vets scramble on Wednesday saw John Lee taking top honours with 40 points, Tony Miles 38, John Loye and Jon Welch 37.

Twos went to Shane Griffiths and the longest putts went to Dave Ahuriri on the 9th and Gordon Callaghan on the 18th.

Twilight golf resumed last Wednesday with Steve Milne taking home the bacon with 22 points, Nga Nelio 21, Brian Nicholas 20, Liam Mckain and John Bartley 19 and Arona Pihama took out the final prize with 18 points on a countback from Kahupiki Winikerei.

A Shop Scramble on Saturday was won by John Bartley, his round including a birdie two on the 13th, Gavin Cortesi took the second remaining prize.

The Summer Cup semi-finals and finals were played at the weekend with Mike Fiddis beating Liam Mckain and Malcolm Buckley beating Brendan Morgan, Buckley then went on to beat Fiddis in the final on the 16th hole. Trophies and prizes will be awarded to on Club Opening Day, February 11. Coming Events: Wednesday 25th: Vets Scramble, Twilight Golf. Saturday 28th: $10.00 Haggle. Sunday 29th: Tokoroa Cosmopolit­an Club Tournament ( closed event).
