How to stay on your bike

- By GILLY ALEXANDER

Bike Wise – More riding tips. Riding Downhill: Ride on your drops. This allows you to break easier. Brake before the corner. Use both breaks at once. Even pressure. Riding on the flat: Ride in a comfortable position. On the ‘hoods’ is good.

Ride in a comfortable gear. Maybe 85-90 rpm. Cornering: Ride on your drops or hoods. Keep your inside pedal up. Bunch Riding: Riding behind someone else can save 20% energy.

When you ride in a group its good to ride in pairs.

Try and follow as close as possible, but don’t ride on your brakes!

Don’t overlap the persons in front’s back wheel.

Point out any obstacles on the road, e.g. class, pot holes, road kill.

Don’t look behind you, as you can often go off course. Other tips: Always take a wide berth around parked cars. Car doors. Ouch!

Always look ahead when you are riding, not straight down.

Make sure you have lights at night.

Tell someone where you are going; take a cell phone, and a few dollars.

Hash house harriers: The run this week will be from Ra’s Bar in Rosebery Mall.

Be there for a walk or a jog, – the mystery trail stops and starts so the fit ones sort out the ‘‘mystery’’ and call us to the correct trail.

Each Wednesday night we have about an hour’s light exercise with a walker’s trail and a runner’s trail – often together. Contact Graeme Sutherland 886 5993
