Shanley shows how it’s done

The weekend’s golf at the Putaruru golf saw Kingsley Shanley come out on top with the best points on the day, Shanley was best on the day and winner of division 2. The winner of division 1 was Ross Jellard, whose score was equalled by division 2 runner up Lance Hay. Earlier in the week (on Wednesday) the spoon title was played for where David Hoyte with 36 points won the title for the day, he failed to take out the year’s overall title, John Wood managed to play a shot up the 18th which meant that he was ahead of Hoyte and the season’s other winners, who played off down the 18th to become the season’s spoon winner.

Winners on the day were, in division 1, Ross Jellard with 45 points on a countback from Butch Hamilton.

3rd was Dominic Morris 43, 4th Paul Sandilands 42, 5th Warwick White 42, 6th Simon Denholm 42, 7th Chris Mckillop 41, 8th Maurice Tricker 40. Winners in division 2:Kingsley Shanley with 48 points, runner-up Lance Hay with 45, 3rd John Lamb 43, 4th Barry Burwell 43, 5th Tony Edgar 42, 6th Don Riley 41, 6th Andrew Sadler 39, 7th David Hoyte 39.

The Ladies division winner was Margie Robinson on 43, runner-up was Fern Taylor with 42.

Summing up a successful day, the new Club Captain Philip Kensington thanked the players, greens, kitchen and bar staff for great day’s golf.

He also invited members and visitors to attend next Saturday where members will play the first round of the summer cup, and all others to compete in the Putaruru Club’s last official tournament of the year
