Get on with it

-

I have not been known to agree with the council all the time.

Over the last few weeks there has been a continual tirade against the mayor, his deputy and certain councillors.

The worst of these are Lawton, Edmeades and Corban.

The mayor and his deputy have not helped in this matter.

It does no good to see in print the venom of Lawton and Corban, and the bile of Edmeades. Are these people spoilt children?

Our council on the whole does a reasonable job. Compare it with Hamilton, Matamata and Waipa; these councils are up to their necks in debt. Our council does its best to keep its rates down; it does this by using its investments to off-set the increases. The investment comes from the sale of power shares some years ago; this has been a godsend to South Waikato.

In our district we have some of the best facilities in the country. The council has put up an equal amount of money in all areas of South Waikato.

Putaruru, Tirau, Arapuni all get looked after and their needs met without too much controversy.

I know people of these areas will wail that Tokoroa gets more than its fair share.

In Tokoroa we have a heated swimming pool and the new sports centre at our grounds.

But would these facilities been any good in Putaruru, Arapuni or Tirau? There are nowhere else for them to go to generate the revenue needed to support them.

Sure they cost a lot of money but if we did not have them for all to enjoy in the district you and your children would not have what these magnificent amenities provide.

Let the council do its job to the best of its ability and if you do not like what they are doing then vote against them at the next
