Iron­man ath­letes mighty

South Waikato was well rep­re­sented at the pop­u­lar Nutri­grain Iron­man event over the week­end.

Toko­roa’s Fred Schip­per was one of the fastest from the South Waikato coming in at 12 hr 58 min 54 sec.

Toko­roa Se­nior Sergeant Graeme Hill, also rep­re­sent­ing the men in blue, did great with a time of 13:13:21. This is the sec­ond Iron­man for Mr Schip­per and Mr Hill.

For­est View High School teacher Andy Gray cel­e­brated his 10th year in the com­pe­ti­tion with a time of 13:43:47.

Lo­cal women Kim An­drew and Karen Shaw ex­celled with times of 14:04:30 and 16:05:06 re­spec­tively. This is the sec­ond time Shaw has com­peted in the an­nual event and it is the first full Iron­man for An­drew, who com­pleted a half Iron­man in 2012.

This year Be­van Docherty won his first iron­man and set a new course record of 8 hours and 15 min­utes. Shaw, Hill and Schip­per each re­ceived their sec­ond iron­man medal.

IRON­MAN: Graeme Hill, Karen Shaw, Fred Schip­per and Kim An­drew all par­tic­i­pated in the New Zealand Iron­man in Taupo over the week­end.
