Ironman athletes mighty

South Waikato was well represente­d at the popular Nutrigrain Ironman event over the weekend.

Tokoroa’s Fred Schipper was one of the fastest from the South Waikato coming in at 12 hr 58 min 54 sec.

Tokoroa Senior Sergeant Graeme Hill, also representi­ng the men in blue, did great with a time of 13:13:21. This is the second Ironman for Mr Schipper and Mr Hill.

Forest View High School teacher Andy Gray celebrated his 10th year in the competitio­n with a time of 13:43:47.

Local women Kim Andrew and Karen Shaw excelled with times of 14:04:30 and 16:05:06 respective­ly. This is the second time Shaw has competed in the annual event and it is the first full Ironman for Andrew, who completed a half Ironman in 2012.

This year Bevan Docherty won his first ironman and set a new course record of 8 hours and 15 minutes. Shaw, Hill and Schipper each received their second ironman medal.
