Tokoroa seniors storm on

-

The Tokoroa Senior A cricket team continued their explosive march to the grand final with an emphatic victory over Taumarunui on Saturday.

Sent in to bat by the hosts the opening pair of Brad King and Mac Seymour were dismissed cheaply which put pressure on the middle order who had been carried by the openers in recent games.

Local stalwarts Anthony Meacham and Dean Tereu resurrected the innings with a dominant partnership of 185 runs in which Meacham played the aggressive role and was brutal on any balls overpitched as he blasted his way to a rapid century, eventually dismissed for 126.

Meanwhile in a patient display of batting which lasted 47 overs Tereu eventually brought up his century with 3 balls remaining to end up on 101 not out.

With a total of 306 the home team was always going to be under pressure and after Jason Jowett bowled 10 overs in a row for only 35 runs in 35 degree Celsius heat the game was safe.

Despite a few hiccups in the field as the team flagged the victory was never in doubt, eventually dismissing the locals for 260.

Bowlers to impress were once again Tom Fergusson, and offspinner Nga Vaevae, claiming two vital wickets in the middle session.

The team now build up to their decider away to Pirongia in two weeks.
