River mural wends its way through Putaruru March 26, 2003 The famous words ‘‘ Water, water everywhere nor even a drop to drink’’ could not be truer of Putaruru shops as they prepare for the festivities this weekend.

A river mural along shop windows by local craft store owner Wendy Arnold already covers most of Princes St and is likely to fill the shop windows along State Highway 1 by Friday.

The mural will be 400 metres long when finished and have taken about four weeks to complete.

Ms Arnold said most shop owners she talked to were keen to have the mural continue along their fronts, but some of the chain stores and banks were not allowed unique window dressing.

To expand on the river theme, Ms Arnold has been working with Emmanuel Centre youths on about 20 onemetre long fish that will sit on posts down the middle of the main road. 25 years ago Solvent abuse fears August 30, 1988 Incidents of solvent abuse are on the rise up again in the South Waikato.
