Lions Lodge closer thanks to club efforts

-

Fundraising for the Cancer Society’s Lions Lodge continues because the Lions clubs of Waikato and Bay of Plenty are committed to raising $3 million for this facility.

Some clubs are continuing to punch above their weight.

The lodge has now been open since February 2011 and continues to provide a relaxing, modern and friendly environment for people undergoing cancer treatment.

The Tirau Lions, part of a township of just 700- 800 people, had already raised $5500 before they held their annual Charity Golf Tournament on Waitangi Day.

Blessed by great weather, a field of 70 golfers and huge support from a range of generous sponsors, the club had a record day and both it and the lodge are greatly appreciative of people’s generosity.

Club president Boyd Houghton said these results didn’t just happen.

He noted that they needed the golfers to pay to play, the weather to be kind, cash donations from wonderful sponsors and the donation of prizes by generous businesses.

They also needed the enthusiasm of Lions to persuade folk to part with their cash at the odds- on hole, barbecues and quick-fire raffles.

Lodge manager Lisa Dalton said the lodge continued to be amazed at the generosity of people even in hard economic times.

She expressed her heartfelt thanks to all involved in making such a donation possible.
