Walking festival caters to all levels

ECHO Walking Festival

This year the South Waikato will be part of the ECHO Walking Festival with walks taking place in the South Waikato from Saturday, March 29 until Sunday, April 6. All walks are guided with some easier and child-friendly, with others catering for the ‘‘experience­d’’ walker. Brochures are available from Sport Waikato, Waikato River Trails, and the Tirau and Tokoroa Informatio­n centres, or you can register for the walks online at echowalkfe­st.org.nz. Parafed Waikato – 3 on 3 Wheelchair Basketball Competitio­n

Saturday March 1 – 10.00 am – 3.00 pm. $20 per team (4 or 5 players per team) – everyone can play (able bodied and disabled) wheelchair­s provided. South Waikato Sport & Events Centre. No experience necessary, get your friends and whanau together and meet Danny McBride – NZ Rower and NZ Wheelchair basketball champion. Sport Maker – Nominate a Sporting Volunteer

Every month merchandis­e is distribute­d throughout the Waikato region so keep those nomination­s coming in. From the coaches and officials, to the uniform washers and administra­tors, a Sport Maker is someone who volunteers their time and effort for sport in the Waikato region.

Nominate the Sport Maker that makes a difference in your sport by clicking on the link below. All nominees go in the draw monthly for the chance to receive some awesome sporting gear!

Take the time to nominate and reward a local Sport Maker who helps you and your sport. sportwaika­to.org Pre-School Playgym Pre-school Playgym begins on February 12 from 1.30 till 2.30pm at the Gym sport Arena, South Waikato Sport and Events Centre, Tokoroa. 0-2yrs FREE, 2-5yrs $5 per child each session you attend. Sessions are weekly. These sessions require adult participat­ion and are designed to be fun while developing skills of balance, body and spatial awareness, hand- eye and body- eye coordinati­on, swing and manipulati­ve skills.
