New projector shines the light

-

Putaruru’s The Plaza has a brand, spanking new projector and will kick off monthly movie screenings this Sunday.

And to top it off, people can head along to the first showing for just a gold Coin donation.

Screenings will normally costs $10 per person.

The Plaza’s Emma Harrison said the new projector would not only allow them to screen movies, but they’d also be offering refreshments before and after Sunday Movies so that patrons had the opportunity to catch up in a ‘cafe´ ’ style setting.

The 520 seat theatre was originally built as a cinema in 1959 and once used a 35mm projector for film screenings.

More recently they’d been restricted to music concerts, performing arts, conferences, conventions and meeting for local community groups due to the quality of their projector.

In 2015 The South Waikato Arts Trust acknowledged the need to improve the quality of the previous projector and have spent the past few months working on funding, researching and organising a replacement.

They decided on a Digital Cinema Projector which is now installed and ready to go at The Plaza.

The first showing will be The Intern at 2pm on May 29.

Movies will then screen the last Sunday of every month at 2pm.

Screening information will be advertised in the South Waikato News and on The Plaza webpage, plaza.org.nz, or the Plaza Putaruru Facebook page.
