Chorus calling for new members

- LUKE KIRKEBY

South Waikato fans of Pentatonix or Pitch Perfect waiting for their chance to showcase their own a capella skills should get excited.

The Hamilton based Waikato Rivertones Chorus is looking for new members.

As the current New Zealand champion chorus, members are eligible to compete in the International Sweet Adelines Competition in Las Vegas in 2017.

And potential new members to come along to an open night in Hamilton on Monday, August 8 at 7pm in Marian School Hall, Clyde Street.

Publicity and promotions coordinator Adrienne Windsor said it was the perfect time for musical women of all ages and voice ranges to join.

‘‘We have members that come from Otorohanga but as yet we haven’t had anyone in the South Waikato join us but anyone in the Waikato that is interested in singing and doesn’t mind travelling is welcome to come along,’’ she said.

‘‘You don’t have to have chorus experience, you just have to be willing to give it a go,’’ she said.

Windsor said co-directors Lynn Jamieson and Kate Sinclair provide vocal instruction every Monday night and the chorus is a friendly, supportive group of women.

‘‘They love to sing a wide variety of songs.’’
