Board member farewell

-

.Since 1989 Nora Matelletti has been a Tirau Community Board member but 2016 will be her last year.

South Waikato mayor Neil Sinclair said he was proud but a little saddened to present Martelletti with flowers during the council’s recent meeting.

Matelletti has been on the board since its inception in 1989 and served as chair until 2013 after which she continued to remain a member.

‘‘Nora has been a supporter of not only her community of Tirau but of the South Waikato District for many, many years,’’ Sinclair said.

‘‘She has served on the South Waikato Performing Arts Trust for many years and freely given of her time as a trustee and volunteer at all of the trust’s activities at its flagship venue - the Plaza Theatre in Putaruru.’’

‘‘Her work as an active member of the Victim Support group for the district has meant that she has been available at a moment’s notice to aid any who have been the victim of any sort of crime. That, associated with her work as a JP has meant that the people in the South Waikato have had a woman who has selflessly put the community’s needs ahead of her own,’’ he said.

Matelletti spoke briefly and said as much as she had given to the community she had received back.
