Gash now deputy mayor

- SOUTH WAIKATO DISTRICT COUNCIL

Jeff Gash has been appointed deputy mayor of the South Waikato by new mayor and former deputy Jenny Shattock.

Gash, who is a second term councillor, said he was thrilled about working with and supporting Shattock in her new role as mayor.

‘‘It is an honour to be asked to serve as deputy mayor of the South Waikato, taking over from mayor Shattock, where she left off,’’ he said.

‘‘The make-up of the new council is pleasing and I am looking forward to working closely with everyone.’’

Shattock said the appointment has the full support of all the newly elected councillors and Gash was appointed based on his credentials.

‘‘Deputy mayor Gash has served three years on council, has a solid grasp on council procedures and understands the role of governance,’’ she said.

‘‘Together with his wife and three daughters he has lived in our community for 15 years and has held a number of roles, including more than 13 years in law enforcement, 12 years in a local business and a host of governance roles.’’

‘‘On behalf of councillors and council staff I wish deputy mayor Gash all the best with the role and I am looking forward to his support as we head into the new term,’’ she said.

‘‘The make-up of the new council is pleasing and I am looking forward to working closely with everyone.’’
