Hunt on to find Foxy the Fox’s lost owner

- LUKE KIRKEBY

Steven Clothier is on a mission to find the owner of a lost fox.

It’s not a particularly cunning plan as the Tirau man simply wants to reunite a little fox soft toy he found in the middle of State Highway 1 with its owner.

The man who created Tirau’s corrugated iron sheep and dog tourist attractions, spotted the lonely fox in the middle of the road when he was driving to Putaruru last week.

‘‘I was driving to Putaruru from [his Corrugated Creations workshop] one morning and I saw him lying in the middle of the road and on my way home he was still there so I thought I’d better stop and rescue him,’’ he laughed.

‘‘Every kid has a soft toy, I had a teddy when I was a kid. It’s got to be someone’s loved one that’s either fallen out the window as they were driving or fallen off while someone has been moving furniture or something.’’

‘‘If it’s a little kids, I think they’d be pretty happy to get him back again and that’s why I stopped.’’

Clothier, who is also an automotive engineer, said despite putting the fox he’s nicknamed Foxy on Facebook and the post being shared over 1000 times, finding his owner was proving difficult.

‘‘Foxes appear to be the new teddies as there are lots of brothers and sisters with foxes out there and there have been people on Facebook offering to take him in to put with their foxes but we’ve had no luck finding his actual owner yet,’’ he laughed.

He said he’s still holding onto hope Foxy’s owner will eventually be found.

‘‘It says he’s made in New Zealand and he looks like a loved fox so if we can find out who owns him I will throw him on a courier and send him home again just so he can be back where he belongs. ’’

Clothier said if Foxy’s owner can’t be found he was happy to keep him.

‘‘There is a collection of soft toys upstairs from kids and things that my wife has so he can go in with them.’’

‘‘Who knows it could have been a dad driving along and it fell out the window and the dad said thank goodness for that. You never know but it would be nice to get him home,’’ he laughed.

If you know or are Foxy’s owner call Clothier on 07 883 1898.
