South Taranaki WI holds AGM

The South Taranaki Women’s Institute AGM was held at the Kapuni War Memorial Hall last month.

President Leonie West welcomed 70 members and guests including Mayor Ross Dunlop, national president Kay Hart and Wanganui and North Taranaki delegates.

The Mayor spoke about the district’s three-year plan. Police officer Mark Wester accepted 165 donated toiletries and food items on behalf of the Te Ara Pae Trust.

Mark spoke about the work the trust does to help vulnerable families in the community.

After the business session, national President Kay Hart, from Motueka, spoke about how much Women’s Institute has become such a huge part of her life and the latest news from the national office.

National executive committee member Maureen O’Connell also spoke about the friendship, support and personal growth she has received through being a Women’s Institute member.

Maureen is an exSouth Taranaki member now living in Blenheim. Jenny Hamley reported from the South Taranaki Community Health Forum and Taranaki Ki Te Tonga.

After a shared finger food lunch, members and guests were entertaine­d by the Hawera Women’s Club play reading group.

The National President presented Good Service Badges to Cathy White of Mangatoki WI and Bev Hawkes of Turuturu WI.

The South Taranaki Federation Committee for 2018 is made of Leonie West, Lynnette Leach, Helen Cameron, Robyn Roberts, Teresa Hurley, Nicola Ashley, Dorothy Hughes and Margie Bishop.
