Plenty of projects for Stratford Lions

- By DELIA SMITH Stratford Lions publicity officer

Lions members have hit the ground running since the new Lions year commenced in July with a mix of work and fun under the leadership of president Peter Death. Peter’s theme for the year, Having fun helping others, is what Lions is all about.

Our projects team kicked off the year with a monster garage sale in July. This was a new project and our team organised a cake stall and sausage sizzle as well as collecting a wide range of saleable goods. We enjoyed the interaction with the community, we had fun and we hope you found a bargain. We look forward to repeating this project in the future.

Also in August, we supported both the Stratford High School music awards and Stratford Daffodil Day.

We also received a visit from Crystalee Jane who had recently travelled to the United States to compete at a Junior Pool Championship gaining a second placing. Members were interested to hear about her achievement and we are proud to announce Crystalee is our Lions Youth of the Year.

At our August meeting District Governor Lynette Stewart inducted a new member and with the prospect of two further members this month, membership has taken an active step forward.

We are now approaching our busy period as we start preparations for the Club’s major fundraising event — the Christmas Stocking Lottery. This project could not proceed without the ongoing generosity of the Stratford business community and again, we look forward to your support. Each year the number of individuals/ organisations requesting assistance grows and it is vital that this project is successful.

All funds raised are distributed throughout our community. Tickets will be available in October.
