Moonlight ball held

- By ALYSSA SMITH Student Reporter

Year 12 and 13 students of Stratford High School dressed to impress at the annual school ball on August 25.

The theme of this year’s ball was To the Moon and Back and students got to walk among stars, space and the moon in the beautifully decorated hall.

The decorations were all done by the ball committee, a group of Year 13s who spent many hours of their time to create the perfect ball night for the students. The ball committee held meetings over the past year to discuss the theme, decorations and other aspects to make sure the ball was planned perfectly.

All the committee’s work paid off and students and teachers alike who attended the ball had a great time.

During the night, students had to fill out voting slips and decide who they thought would be fit for Ball King and Queen. There were other categories to vote for such as Ball Prince and Princess, Cutest Couple, Best Dressed Male and Female, Best Dancer and Best Made Dress.

With the votes all counted the anticipation grew to find out who would be crowned. As the names were called, the crowd erupted in applause; Stratford High School’s Ball King and Queen for 2018 are Ethan Martin and Briar Armstrong.

Briar says she was honoured to be announced Ball Queen.

“It’s pretty cool being crowned queen because I didn’t really think I would get it at all. I was quite shocked when they said my name,” Briar says.

She says it was an honour because with all the planning of the ball there were a few people she thought could get the title.

“I didn’t plan to get any awards, I just went for a good time with my ball date and friends.

“I am really honoured to be the ball queen and I know that this will be an exciting story to tell my children when I’m older,” she says.
