Toys are important for puppies as an aid to prevent boredom when they’re are left alone. They’re also great for interaction between yourself and your new puppy. Look for toys ones of appropriate size for your puppy and ensure there are no easily chewed off parts such as ribbon, string or buttons. Active toys are great such as rope tug-of-war toys and hard rubber Kong type toys in which you can hide treats. Rubber chew bones are probably safer than raw hide chews. A recent case we had with a puppy vomiting, resolved with intravenous fluid treatment, followed by him passing a rubber leg in his droppings the next day that he had chewed off a soft chicken toy.
I own two cats and recently tried to add a third – a delightful kitten. Unfortunately my male cat began spraying urine on my new curtains and in the end I had to rehome the kitten. Now that the kitten has gone my male cat has stopped spraying. Is there any strategy I could adopt if I tried again?
Introducing a new cat to a household with two resident cats is always going to cause some conflict, but the reaction has been quite marked in your case. As your male cat has settled since the kitten has been removed it is most likely the urine spraying was brought on by stress due to the new arrival. Trialling feliway, the synthetic cat hormone, in the form of a spray or diffuser may help. Depending on the size of your house, having a long period of isolation of the newcomer in a separate room and maintaining your two cats in their normal places could help, but it may be safer to stay with a two cat household.
