This 2015 Guatemalan drama offers more twists and turns than you might initially expect. Seventeen-year-old Mayan, Maria (Maria Mercedes Coroy), is arranged to be married to local widower Ignacio (Justo Lorenzo), a match that will help lift the status of her coffee plantation working family. However, despite her perceived happiness, she only has eyes for Pepe (Marvin Coroy), a young man who dreams of escaping across the other side of the volcano to America (there’s just the small other matter of Mexico to navigate). Thursday, 8.30pm Rialto This 2015 documentar­y is on the life and legacy of gospel/soul music legend and civil rights icon Mavis Staples and her family group, The Staple Singers. ‘‘Richness, warmth and tenderness pulse from this lovely documentar­y,’’ wrote The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw. Friday, 8.30pm Sky Movies Premiere Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet star in this 2016 drama about a gang of criminals and corrupt cops who plan the murder of a police officer to pull off their biggest heist yet. ‘‘Has grit and atmosphere to burn,’’ wrote Variety’s Justin Chang.
