that story to my son at bedtime one more time…! Our tastes change as we age. And there are things that we may still think we dislike purely because we haven’t tried them in a while. This week, give something new a second chance. For more call 0900 30022.

Wattie’s Cream Style Corn

This was the best nutritionally with the highest percentage of corn (80 per cent) and the lowest kilojoules per 100g (360). It did have slightly more sugar and sodium than Oak, but the differences were small, not enough to change the rankings. Taste wise, our group of nine tasters voted it the best with seven scoring it first and two voting it second. It was the most expensive at $2.19 per 410g can. Overall rating: Best – highest percentage of corn, voted best for taste and, although most expensive, price differences were relatively small.

Oak Cream Style Corn

While this had less sugar than Wattie’s (2.8g/100g compared to 4.8g/100g) and slightly less sodium (points to Oak there), it had a lower percentage of corn at 71 per cent. Overall, it was second for taste with two tasters voting it best, six second and one at third. Cost wise, it was second at $1.79 per 410g can. Overall rating: Second – second highest percentage of corn, second for taste and second for cost. you’re making more. To an extent, you’ve been led to these decisions by circumstance. How could you have reached any other conclusion given the situation you faced? Ah, but you could have done. You could have chickened out or slipped into an easier role. Or accepted a compromise that might have left you very compromised indeed. Instead, you’ve done what you felt was right. It will yet prove very right. For more call 0900 30022.
