Mall birth mumand baby ‘stable’

-

A baby has been born in the toilets of an Auckland mall and rushed to hospital with its mum, in critical condition.

St John Ambulance and a Rapid Response unit were called to the scene about 5.30pm on Friday, a St John spokesman said.

Shortly after the birth the baby was rushed to Starship Hospital in critical condition, he said. The woman was taken to Auckland City Hospital in serious condition.

The mother and baby were yesterday in a stable condition at Auckland City Hospital.

An Auckland District Health Board spokeswoman said yesterday morning that both mother and baby were in a stable condition, and the baby was in a neonatal intensive care unit.

A mall staff member said staff had rushed to the parent bathroom by the food court, heard yelling and saw cushions on the floor.
