JUST like his big brother Beauden, it appears Jordie Barrett is developing a knack for popping up in the right place at the right time.

Hot on the heels of his standout display in the drawn third test against the British and Irish Lions, Jordie Barrett racked up 20 points as the Hurricanes recovered from a 15-16 halftime deficit to beat the Brumbies 35-16 in their Super Rugby quarterfin­al in Canberra on Friday night.

The youngest of the three Barrett brothers in the All Blacks squad, the 20-year-old kicked three conversion­s and three penalties but it was the rather unconventi­onal nature of the try he scored which was the most memorable part of yet another strong performanc­e.

With the visitors trailing by eight points after 25 minutes and hot on attack, halfback TJ Perenara fired a pass that looked like it was intended for first fiveeighth Beauden Barrett.

But prop Ben May was running a straight line at first receiver and when the ball cannoned off his head it was the Barrett in the 13 jersey who chased through, scooped up the ball and dove over to dot down.

The try understand­ably left the Australian TV commentary team struggling for an explanatio­n as to what had transpired, leaving former Wallabies hooker Phil
