PM in Trump and Trudeau chat on edge of Vietnam Apec summit
PRIME Minister Jacinda Ardern has revealed she was introduced to US President Donald Trump by her Canadian counterpart, Justin Trudeau, on the sidelines of the Apec summit in Da Nang, Vietnam.
Ardern was responding to questions after the trio were snapped in a photo posted to Twitter with the caption #NAFTA Pijama Party.
Ardern, although facing away from the camera, is identifiable by her white shirt and hair comb.
The Prime Minister said she wound up in a "circle observing a conversation" after talking to Trudeau and Chilean President Michelle Bachelet. She described the conversation as "not very political", but didn’t go into details.
Ardern said she exchanged pleasantries with the US president and shook his hand. When asked about the duration of the handshake, Ardern described it as "standard".
Talks to revive the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) appeared to have collapsed on Friday night when Trudeau failed to show up to a leaders’ meeting, but Canada’s trade minister later blamed his absence on "a misunderstanding about the schedule".
