NZ’s latest golden couple

THE Black Sticks’ historic gold medal ensures captain Stacey Michelsen is one half of New Zealand’s latest golden couple.

Michelsen’s partner is cyclist Sam Webster, who won gold for both individual sprint and team sprint.

Both have been cheering each other on, on social media, while pursuing their own Commonwealth Games aspirations.

Webster was not at yesterday’s 4-1 gold medal victory against arch-rivals Australia, but joined in the celebrations online via Instagram: ‘‘Winners are grinners! An incredible game, so proud! Wish I was there to share to moment with you.’’

Earlier Michelsen had gone online to help celebrate Webster’s medals: ‘‘Congratulations to my favourite bike rider. Wish I could have been there to watch. Throwback to being in a village together at another time.’’
