Arquette also believes that the upbringing that she and her four siblings (David, Patricia, Alexis and Richmond, all of whom also became actors) had was an influence when it came to deciding to take on this role.

‘‘We were exposed to all religions – which I think was a good thing. My mother was born Jewish and my father was born Catholic and then they both became Muslim as they explored their spiritual life. But then, when my mother was dying of cancer, she realised she wanted to be buried as a Jew.

‘‘At the end of the day, all religions come back to one point and that is love.’’

She says she enjoyed her time in Belgium making Holy Lands and still loves having her ‘‘secret going on-location time’’.

‘‘When it’s just me in a hotel room, having the discipline of going to work each day – I really love that in my life.’’

Up next for Arquette is shooting a movie with Eleanor Coppola (Paris Can Wait )anda role on Ryan Murphy and Sarah Paulson’s (American Horror Story) new show Ratched. But first, she’s looking forward to watching tomorrow’s Academy Awards ceremony.

As a member of the Academy, Arquette can’t divulge her favourites to take out the awards, however she does say that there have been ‘‘many great performanc­es this year and many movies I love’’.
