Tune in to the changing sounds of autumn

- Katy Atkin

Winter is coming; well, sort of. It is getting colder and if you’re not a Game of Thrones fan, you might be looking for some alternative indoor entertainment.

There is a range of new podcasts dropping in the next month so check these out.

Produced and presented by Dan Taberski, who made popular podcasts Finding Richard Simmons and Surviving Y2k, comes Running From

Cops. This podcast looks at how the TV series Cops, which turns 30 this year, has influenced America’s attitude towards the police.

Cops ran for more than 1000 episodes, with the concept of following real police officers with video cameras as they arrest real citizens.

It looks set to be a cultural look at criminal justice and the process behind what happens when police and reality television producers collide.

Journalist and author Michael Lewis is best-known for writing the books behind popular movies like Moneyball, The Blind Side and The Big Short.

In his first podcast, Against the Rules, Lewis explores the concept of fairness – in financial markets, newsrooms, basketball games, courts of law, and much more.

In the first episode, he asks what’s happening to a world where everyone loves to hate the referee and what sports like the NBA are doing to adjudicate fairness.

Meanwhile, the world of celebrity is explored through Minor Adventures with Topher Grace, as he sits down each week with a celebrity friend.

Grace, who most will know as Eric in That ’70s Show, doesn’t take himself too seriously and instead of simply interviewing his subject, he sets them a surprise challenge.

It’s very pop-culture and silly, but an easy way to pass 45 minutes on a cold, dark day.
