Shaun Wallace hints at chance of a Kiwi Chase

- GLENN McCONNELL

THE Chase’s ‘‘Dark Destroyer’’, Shaun Wallace, is open to the idea of filming a show in New Zealand.

Wallace is touring New Zealand – his second trip here this year – and hit the streets of Wellington yesterday. But on Friday in Auckland, Wallace said he was trying to convince the other chasers and host Bradley Walsh to come over as a group.

Does that mean they’re looking to film a New Zealand special of The Chase? ‘‘Who knows,’’ Wallace said, leaving the possibility open for Britain’s ITV to bring the popular quiz show to Aotearoa.

Wallace isn’t the only chaser to have alluded to a New

Zealand Chase. The ‘‘Governess’’, Anne Hegerty, last year urged New Zealand’s television bosses to contact her about filming a spinoff Chase New Zealand series. In August, she said she would ‘‘love to do’’ a New Zealand episode of the show.

And now, it seems Wallace is on board with the idea as well.

On his second day of his latest New Zealand trip, Wallace visited Eden Park – wearing his own All Blacks’ jersey – and spoke to schoolchildren in Epsom.

Although he was hosting quiz shows across the country as part of a 10-day national tour, Wallace said his trip was selffunded. ‘‘I’m really grateful to be here, I’m not just saying that, I wouldn’t have come all this way at my own expense if I didn’t mean that,’’ he said.

Having seen how obsessed New Zealanders were with The Chase when he visited in February, Wallace said he wanted to return to thank viewers for their support.
