TV crossover podcasts that offer Netflix and chills
Ilove a good TV crossover podcast and there’s none better than one that gives you chills and prompts an original Netflix true crime series.
One of the first podcast series to do this was Dirty John, the true story of John Meehan, who manipulated his wealthy, older girlfriend, with deadly consequences. The show starred Eric Bana as Meehan, and actress Connie Britton as the wealthy businesswomanwho was swept off her feet.
The second season of Dirty John covers the crime of passion of housewife Betty Broderick (Amanda Peet) and her husband Dan (Christian Slater). The socialite and mother of four was jilted by her husband of more than 15 years and, after a bitter divorce, became homicidal, shooting her ex-husband and his newwife as they slept in their bed.
The case is covered in the
companion podcast, It Was Simple, and examines Broderick’s mental state in the lead-up to the killings. Broderick was eventually convicted of two counts of murder.
Another chilling crime is documented over two episodes in the podcast Crimes of Passion: Chris Watts. Wattswas living in suburban Colorado when he was arrested for the murder of his wife, ShanannWatts, their unborn son and two daughters.
The case is retold in the jawdropping Netflix true-crime documentary American Murder: The Family Next Door.
Using police footage, videos from social media posts and texts between Shanann and Chris’ phones, the documentary paints a portrait of a family unknowingly headed towards deadly disaster.
Both the podcast and the TV show dismantle the myth of a marriage depicted on social media as perfect, and the devastating events of the family’s demise will leave you speechless.
