Quake shakes Chch
Cantabrians were last night shaken by a 4.7 magnitude quake – the strongest since last July. The tremor struck at 9.15pm, centred 15km west of Christchurch, at a depth of 10km and caused a flurry of online traffic that overloaded Geonet’s website, and many took to social media to comment. A Twitter user said: ‘‘Well that one got me out of my chair. I think I’m out of practice.’’ There were no reports of damage or injury. Shortly before dawn yesterday, another 4.7 tremor shook Wellington and the upper South Island, centred 65km northeast of French Pass, just north of the South Island, at a depth of 90km.
