Student brings weapon

- NICOLE LAWTON

An international student at a private school has been removed after bringing a ‘‘replica weapon’’ on to school grounds.

It is understood police were contacted after an incident involving a Year 12 student at Kristin School on Auckland’s North Shore this week.

Kristin’s senior school principal, David Boardman, issued a letter to parents on Friday, describing the incident as ‘‘of great concern’’.

‘‘We are aware of an incident at the school earlier this week in which a replica weapon was brought onto the school premises by a Year 12 pupil,’’ he said.

‘‘After considerable investigation, consideration and contact with the police, the student has been removed from the school.

‘‘It is our understanding no one was put at physical risk by this incident but it is obviously an unacceptable situation.

‘‘The safety and wellbeing of Kristin School students is of paramount importance to the school and an incident of this nature is treated as a serious and high priority matter.’’

Last night board of trustees chairwoman Philippa Fee confirmed that the incident occurred, and that the student was no longer at the school.

She reiterated that ‘‘at no time was the physical wellbeing of the students or staff put at risk’’.

Fee did not want to comment further.
