Hurrell flattens new teammate

- MARVIN FRANCE

Konrad Hurrell has made an immediate impact for the Gold Coast Titans though it wasn’t sort his new club would have been hoping for.

Playing against against Parramatta in his first game since being released by the Warriors last month, Hurrell’s enthusiasm got the better of him as he flattened teammate Chris McQueen while attempting to make a tackle.

The blockbusting centre caught McQueen with a swinging arm as he tried to wrap up Eels fullback Michael Gordon.

The hit was so hard that McQueen was taken from the field in the fourth minute before being ruled out for the rest of the match.

It was a disappointing debut for Hurrell as the Titans suffered a 22-12 defeat in Darwin.

The 24-year-old struggled in the warm conditions and failed to see out the match, playing 55 minutes at right centre and finishing with nine carries for 59 metres while also making 12 tackles.

The Eels, meanwhile, registered their first victory since being rocked by salary cap allegations, with Corey Norman and Kaysa Pritchard lifting them to their eighth win of the season.

Down 8-0 after just 13 minutes, Parramatta responded with 22 straight points, ending the Titans’ four-game winning streak and leaving them hanging on to eighth spot.

The Eels had lost all three games since allegations surfaced of salary cap breaches, which are likely to see them stripped of 12 competition points.

They led 20-8 in the 64th minute when Nathan Peats was penalised for dissent, gifting his former team two points.

It came moments after Norman sliced through a tiring Titans defence and handed off to Pritchard to finish a 55-metre movement and seal victory.
